No time to sleep= no time to blog

My life has been out of control! I haven't blogged (except for my dumb English class) in 10 days!! I told myself I would blog at least once a week, but I sometimes forget that my life is insane. I practically take 21 hours of class, on top of all my extracurriculars. I take 15 hours of real class and 6 hours of a DAT prep class every week. And this week, I had an exam on Monday in my hardest class and one on Tuesday as well. It is to be expected though, spring break is only a week and 2 days away so professors feel as if they must LOAD up on exams/quizzes/papers/projects! It doesn't help that professors act like you only take one single class (theirs) and no others! So annoying, but I'm done ranting now. I decided to do a post on stress because I definitely was stressed at the beginning of this week. I told myself I wouldn't start with a post like this, but I feel like it is super relevant! I went to a conference for Greek Life at the beginning of February, and saw an amazing speaker talk about stress tips, so I thought I would share! When he started the presentation, he had all the participants do a stress assessment. I did not fail, but I was pretty close to it. After that, I started keeping these stress tips where I could see them. I have not gotten completely better about my stress, but I am making strides!! I think posting a list of at least 5 of these somewhere visible could really improve your well-being, because stress can be very detrimental to your life. I could not even pick 5 from the list of 20, that is how much I like them all. Some are so simple too, things you may do but just not relax while doing them.

1. Make excellent decisions.
I remember when he explained this one he talked about how making "good decisions" was not enough, you need to make decisions that are better than that!

2. Set priorities and adopt a big picture perspective; Balance life according to priorities.
Priorities should be ranked according to how they are in your heart versus how you live your life. I know mine are not congruent but they should be!

3. Avoid doing too much.
Ummmm.. no comment!!

4. Avoid seeking perfection from yourself; don't expect perfection from others.
Probably the thing I have worked on the most in the past year! "No one is perfect" is a cliche saying, but it could not be more true!

5. Don't worry about bad things that could happen.
Weirdly, I am very much about living in the now, yet I stress about the future.. it's an odd way to live.

6. Improve your lifestyle.
Work out, go out... however you like to spend your time when you're not in class or working, do that!

7. Be more flexible.
Do what you like, like what you do. It's that simple! Don't boggle yourself down with worthless things just because you think they better your resume!

8. Talk and be open to talking.
It's nice to have people listen, so be a listener! And don't just talk about yourself.. I think I forget that sometimes.

9. Watch the sunset.
NOT THE SUNRISE!! That means you haven't slept (or you're an earlybird).

10. Go to bed a bit earlier.
Wish I had the time! Hence the name of this post.

11. Watch a cartoon or America's Funniest Home Videos.
AFV gets me everytime.

12. Say and do something nice for someone who cannot pay you back.
It's all about some karma.

13. Laugh, giggle, and snort.
SMILE too! "Smiling is my favorite!" -Buddy the Elf

14. Pet a dog.
I am obsessed with dogs, golden retrievers especially. UGH I love dogs! They are great.

15. Take a walk.
And breathe while you are at it.

16. Read something.
This is incredibily hard to do in college, but I try to read every winter/summer break.

17. Give someone a hug or ask someone for a hug.
I think I learned once that hugs release endorphins...they are legit.

18. Play with a kid.
Kids aren't cynical like adults! They find the good in everything.

19. Clean your room. Mess = stress!
Refer to the picture of my desk. I promise my room is WAY better than that though.
My desk. Note: 3 to-do lists, DAT course books, Reese's (sorry not sorry), and tons of loose class notes! This needs serious work!

20. Stretch and take 5 deep breaths.
I don't think I ever took deep breaths unless I was at the doctors before. But now I do before bed and it helps me relax a ton!

Use these!! They will work! They make you reazlie that everything in life is small in comparison to the big picture!

xoxo, A
